Regardless of the orientation of your target audience, images, videos and charts will attract and convert more leads into clients for your business– more than written content. On the other hand, visuals in coaching make it easier to communicate with and coach your clients better. This also works for people who have a very short attention span.

  • The brain can see images that last for just 13 milliseconds.
  • Our eyes can register 36,000 visual messages per hour.
  • We can get the sense of a visual scene in less than 1/10 of a second.
  • 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual.
  • Visuals are processed 60,000 times faster in the brain than text.
  • 40 percent of nerve fibers are linked to the retina.
  • It takes about ¼ seconds for the human brain to process and attach meaning to a symbol. In comparison, it takes an average of 6 seconds to read 20-25 words.

In a nutshell, visual learning or representations improve the memory by 32%. Visual learning makes it easy for us to remember. Whenever you have coaching programs with your clients, use graphs, bullet points, schematic charts, etc. They will absorb information easily and remember.

This will help you understand the strengths of your clients better, instead of getting frustrated.

People Learn Differently – Appeal to Them

There are different types of learners in our world. There are the auditory learners who hear instructions, and it sticks. We have the visual linguistic learners, who will do well with carefully written out instructions. These two groups of learners grab information very easily.

Some clients are less vocal than the others. A character trait in some persons, not a flaw. This may hamper your ability to help them right, because there is a communication gap. They try, they really try to articulate their thoughts, but they lack verbal skills to do so. You get frustrated that they are blocking you out. But honestly, they are just very poor communicators. A lot of them become geniuses and better articulators when presented with visual options.

These are the visual-spatial learners.

Disappointingly, these set of people are often not understood by coaches, simply because they are poor communicators. They skip them for the better communicators, instead of trying out the visual options with them. This may be because, the method takes more time, and visuals are not easy to create. Most coaches are not patient with the clients, and these kinds of clients are the ones who need to be given the most time.

Getting your clients to express themselves visually doesn’t mean it has to be something elaborate. A simple scheme representation, usage of inanimate objects or items around them is good enough.

Below, I will be showing you ways to incorporate visuals into your coaching program. This will help clients open up and you’d get the best out of them… getting them their desired results in record time.

  1. Encourage clients to create their thoughts in pictures or flow charts. Their current situation, how they see themselves progressing, and possible obstacles they see on their journey. This should be identified and solved while brainstorming.
  2. Have a flow chart handy to show the client what the steps to discovery, growth and getting better looks like. This will help the client realize what they have to do, build the clients motivation, and get them ready for change.
  3. Get the client to create varying images of where they are now and where they want to be at the end of working with you. This helps the client gain more insight into what they really want to achieve, even beyond what they initially thought they needed. Help the client identify and properly clarify the steps that are between where they are presently, and where they want to be.
  4. Create visual reminders for clients in form of charts, graphs or mind maps to keep them focused.

Communicate With Your Target Audience through Visuals

Incorporating visuals into your content, I mean quality visuals that are self-explanatory take lots of work. But doing it right will get your target audience to engage better with your content.  You can use visuals to explain concepts which may not be well understood when explained in words.

Visuals like Venn diagrams, pie charts and graphs can have a high impact on your clients. They read your content, statistics and they can trace it consistently on a diagram. This makes the information stick faster and longer.

Learn to use check lists and flow charts instead of just words, when making descriptions. List out each step in a way that there will be continuity. Don’t break the chain; let each piece flow seamlessly into the next one. This will make it easy for clients to refresh their memories in a matter of minutes.

If you need your clients to understand how to carry out a specific task, walk them through the steps with explicit screenshots, markups and even viable examples.

You absolutely do not need to drill a hole in your pocket for you to create awe inspiring and compelling visuals. You even do not have to be an expert or a graphic designer to create images. This is contrary to what many coaches think. You can create powerful visuals without having to stretch your budget, with the tools below.

Canva: this is a free image creating tool that can be used for web, print media design and graphics. It allows you create everything from infographics to blog headers. You can also use it to design PDFs and mind maps. It also serves as a design learning tool.

Funnelytics: this is a tool for funnel creation. You can spread-out flow charts and processes for clients through customizable funnel mapping.

Skitch: this is the extension of evernote. It helps you add shapes, create sketches and use annotations in portraying a more visual representation of your ideas and content. ideas, flow charts and processes are what this tool helps you roll out.

Mindmup: for the creation of seamless mind maps to show clients the processes of things, and ideas as they flow through stages.

iSpring: this is a PowerPoint extension tool which helps you create powerful mind maps, and any other visual content you can imagine. These include audios and videos. It makes it easy to create an e-Learning portal for your program.
